United Way Seeking Volunteers and Registering Households for Day of Caring

Save the date!  Our annual raking event, Day of Caring, is scheduled for October 23, 2021. Volunteers and team leaders can register online at www.uwswac.org. The first 450 volunteers will receive a free t-shirt. More details on the day to follow.  All youth volunteers (under the age of 18) must have a signed waiver from a parent or guardian. CDC guidelines will be followed.

We are also currently accepting registration from local elderly/disabled individuals who wish to have their yards raked by volunteers during Day of Caring.

To register to have your yard raked, call 715-421-0390 and speak to a 2-1-1 Resource Specialist between the hours of 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday.  This program is designed for low- or fixed-income elderly and/or disabled residents who have no other means of completing the raking service (ie: no family nearby, unable to pay a landscaping company, etc.).

When calling to register, residents will need to provide directions (or the nearest cross street) to their home; and be able to describe their yard size:

  • Small – 3 or less trees
  • Medium – 4-6 trees
  • Large – 7-10 trees
  • Jumbo – more than 10 trees

The deadline for residents to register is October 8, 2021. Those who register to have their yards raked will be expected to provide their own paper leaf bags (where required) and instructions for the volunteers.  Instructions will need to include information about leaf disposal, which will depend upon the municipality they live in.  Volunteers will only be raking leaves.  Residents receiving services are asked to please clean up any pet waste and trash from their yard before volunteers arrive.

During Day of Caring in 2020, 400 volunteers raked 70 yards, helping residents prepare their yards for the upcoming winter season. Join us to help our fellow neighbors and LIVE UNITED!
