Stuff the School Bus Serves 832 Students in 2018

Thanks to donors and volunteers, Stuff the School Bus / Stuff the Desk helped a total of 832 students in 2018.   On Thursday, August 2nd, community members donated school supplies to the Stuff the School Bus event during Lunch by the River; and on Saturday, August 18th, the school supplies were distributed to students who registered to receive school supplies at Lincoln High School.

2018 Statistics:

  • Of the students served, 95% qualified for free or reduced school meals.

  • Of the students served, 40 were considered homeless (in a shelter or temporary foster care; in a motel, car or campsite; in transitional housing; with another family due to loss of housing or as a result of economic hardship; with friends or family members other than a parent/guardian; or a student living in own apartment or home).

  • A total of 155 volunteers lent a hand during collection, set up, pre-packing and distribution.

  • A sampling of some of the items collected during Stuff the School Bus include:  435 backpacks, 32 binders, 313 colored pencils, 399 crayons, 1,846 folders, 303 glue bottles, 762 glue sticks, 353 markers, 991 wide ruled notebooks, 488 college ruled notebooks, 285 scissors, 135 school boxes and 106 watercolors

If you missed Stuff the Desk and your student needs school supplies, contact your school counselor or social worker.

The Stuff the School Bus Committee would like to thank everyone who helped to make this possible:  the volunteers, the organizations who held school supply drives, and everyone who donated school supplies and/or monetary donations.  We’d also like to thank our local media who helped to promote these events.  Thanks to everyone working together, 832 students have school supplies to help them start the school year off on the right track. Thank you!
