WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI – Day of Caring is United Way’s annual event where hundreds of volunteers come together to help our elderly and disabled neighbors with fall leaf raking on October 24, 2026. Volunteers must register online at www.uwswac.org by October 23rd. Be sure to register early to receive a free t-shirt (while supplies last)! All volunteers under the age of 18 must also complete a waiver form signed by a parent or guardian.
Elderly and disabled south Wood County residents who wish to have their yards raked by Day of Caring volunteers must register with United Way by October 9, 2026. To register, call 211 or 715-421-0390 Monday-Friday, 11 am-5 pm. This event is intended for low or fixed-income elderly and/or disabled residents who have no other means of completing the raking service (i.e. no family nearby, unable to pay a landscaping company, etc.).
Those who register to have their yards raked must provide volunteers with paper leaf bags and/or instructions for leaf disposal, depending upon the municipality they live in. Residents receiving leaf raking services are asked to please clean up all pet waste and trash from their yard before volunteers arrive.
During Day of Caring in 2025, 447 volunteers raked 103 yards for elderly and disabled community members. Join us for this year’s event so we can help even more of our neighbors!
